“Destruction”
February 4th, 2006
Northshore Harbor Center
Slidell, LA
By David Whitney

In its inaugural event, No Love Entertainment, the “big brother” of Reality Combat, enjoyed great success. The show sold out a mere fifteen minutes after the tickets went on sale the day of the event. The Northshore Harbor Center, a brand new first class facility, was filled to capacity as the area saw its first MMA show since Hurricane Katrina. The fighters seemed as anxious as the fans to get the action underway and it showed during the event as only one fight went to the judges.

There were several intriguing match ups on the card including the main event between local favorite and Team Voodoo member J.C. Pennington and Gary Bergeron, a golden gloves boxer and fellow Louisiana native. This bout was a classic clash of styles on paper, but turned out to provide some surprises. Pennington, known for his ground game, figured to want to keep the fight there, especially against Bergeron, an accomplished boxer. The fight initially went this way as Pennington shot almost immediately and began working his ground game. He caught Bergeron in his patented finishing move, the triangle choke, but something strange happened-Bergeron would not tap!! In spite of finishing several accomplished brazilian jiu jitsu players with the same technique, Pennington was unable to force Bergeron to tap. While Pennington worked a series of punches and elbows, Bergeron was able to keep his composure and maintain just enough room to avoid choking out. Bergeron fought his way out after what seemed like an eternity from within Pennington’s triangle. After the first round, it was clear that Bergeron was tiring, no doubt affected by the triangle, and Pennington still looked relatively fresh. Pennington looked to strike in the second round as he gained more confidence. He even floored Bergeron with a nice hook, but was unable to finish as Bergeron always seemed to do just enough to escape danger. As the fight continued, Pennington maintained positional dominance on the ground and landed some nice kicks standing. By the third round, it looked inevitable that the fight would go to the judges. Pennington tried everything he could to finish the fight, but Bergeron simply refused to quit. In the end, the judges awarded Pennington an unanimous decision. However, Bergeron’s performance did not go unnoticed as the crowd loudly applauded him in addition to ring announcer, Big Poppa Schnake, formally awarding Bergeron with the BPS “heart” award.

The co-main event saw Mexican Top Team’s Rich Chavez against Team Voodoo member and Gladiator Academy instructor, Kyle Bradley. Bradley was fighting off an illness and failed to make weight for this fight. Chavez agreed to the weight difference (5 lbs) and the bout went on as scheduled. With the backdrop of this info, one expected Bradley to want to finish quickly. It almost ended too quickly from Bradley’s perspective as Chavez worked a tight heelhook early on. However, once Bradley escaped, he took his energy level up a notch. Bradley stuffed the next takedown attempt by Chavez and then unleashed a flurry of hard shots on the ground, knocking out Chavez for an impressive win. In other action, Tony Bouldin pulled off an impressive first round win, stopping the 350 +lbs. Big John Brown with strikes on the ground. Team Voodoo members Sam Ortiz and Brock Kerry also recorded dominant wins. Tony Roberts took out “Slim” Breazal in what proved to be a heavyweight slugfest. Calvin Doss pulled an upset over Ashley Rivers with an armbar in the first round and Donald Paige scored a victory after opening a cut on tough opponent, Josh Woodruff. Brandon Giniesse, Kenny Cavalier, and Juan Coreas rounded out the action with impressive submission victories.

Considering this was the first event for No Love Entertainment, it appears that promoter Rich Clementi has his sights set on bigger things. He has scheduled a show at the River Center in Baton Rouge, a much larger than venue than most regional shows are able to accommodate. However, given the quick sell out of this show and the vast fan base in the South, one should not be surprised by the move. Stay tuned to realitycombat.tv for the latest news.

Main Event for Destruction

MMA NewsThe main event will be Gary Bergeron vs JC Pennington

Gary is from Chalmette (sp) and lost his home due to the hurricane. Gary has been competing in some sort of combat sport his whole life, from Wrestling throughout high school, Brazilian Jui Jitsu to becoming a Golden Gloves boxer with over 30 fights. He feels comfortable in the ring and will step up against anyone. He also has served his country with the United States Army and has just recently gotten back from Iraq.

JC Pennington is from Slidell LA. His resides is the same town that the event will take place so he will definitely have the hometown push. JC is currently 6-1 with his only loss being his first pro fight. JC Pennington also known as the "Red Devil" has put away his last 5 opponents with either a submission win or a knockout. JC was also unfortunate that he lost his home also in the storm.

Both guys are looking to take out some aggression and see who the baddest lightweight in the area is and make his way closer to the title.

GCM Communications Presents 'MARS'
Saturday, February 4th, 2006
At Ariake Coliseum, Tokyo, Japan
Door Open: 16:30
Fight Start: 18:00

report & photo by Yoshinori Ihara (www.boutreview.com) // PIC: FEG President Tanikawa (third from left) was at the press conference also.

At the end of December, the organizer of Demolition, D.O.G. and Cross Section shows, held a press conference at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo and announced the beginning of a new MMA event called 'MARS.'

The name obviously came from the war god in Roman myths. GCM Head Mr. Kubo stated, 'We are looking to provide a pure, high quality MMA for the fans.' The inaugural show will take place at 15,000 plus capacity Ariake Coliseum on February 4th 2006 and all bouts will be held in the ring instead of the cage. Kubo explained, 'As a competition, I believe the cage would be more fair for fighters but in order for us to reclaim the Asian market, the cage could cause a harmful effect.' On this day, GCM Communications announced three confirmed matches for the February 4th show. A former Shooto world welterweight champion Vitor 'Shaolin' Ribeiro will take on Eiji Mitsuoka from Wajiu-tsu Keishu-kai RJW, Rodrigo Gracie is going to fight Hidetaka Monma from Wajiu-tsu Keishu-kai A-3, and also, Kazuhiro Hamanaka from Inoki Office will start to walk on a comeback road after a disappointing loss to Wilson Gouveia at the MFC 5: USA vs. Japan. His opponent is going to be Hiroki Ozaki from Wajiu-tsu Keishu-kai Tokyo Headquarters.

2006 is looking pretty good for the UFC. With the recent announcements of new fighters and veterans stepping into the Octagon, the competition has gotten more intense. So who will reign in 2006? Who will lose their title and who will hold on? Will this be the year that multiple champions will move up or down a weight class to win a title? ADCC News looks into the crystal ball to see:

AFC's Visotzky changes weight class

AFC’s Middleweight division has been one of the most exciting and competitive of 2005. UFC vet Dennis Hallman holds the title while Charles McCarthy made it to the UFC once so far. In addition to them Crafton Wallace, Ben Saunders, Diego Visotzky, Luigi Fioravanti, and Denis Kang have all had great fights in ’05 while Dustin Denes was rumored to be on a couple cards. Luigi is gradually dropping to Welterweight and Denis Kang is probably going back to Pride so the division is thinning a little at the beginning of 2006 but for years to come the ’05 Middleweights of AFC will be making waves.

Diego Visotzky has been fighting in AFC for a little over a year, putting on two of the most memorable fights against Ben Saunders and Crafton Wallace. Diego also brings an Olympic air to events as the only fighter in the international stage hailing from Argentina. Cutting weight has been a big factor in his 0-2-1 record, an issue he reveals he is addressing by moving up from Middleweight to probably Heavyweight. Given his explosive style and surprisingly wide array of abilities for a relatively untrained fighter Diego could be one to watch out for in 2006.

'Shaolin' Ribeiro - Cage Rage Title Fight Gallery!

MMA Newsagent2600 writes "

Submitted by: Keith Mills
Posted On 09/22/2005

London, England - The biggest news coming out of England's recent Cage Rage 13 was Vitor 'Shaolin' Ribeiro taking the Lightweight belt from Jean Silva via side choke. This was Ribeiro's redemption of sorts, having been the Shooto Welterweight (Lightweight in US) champion from the time he beat Joachim Hansen in December '03 until he lost it to Tatsuya Kawajiri one year later. That Kawajiri fight in SHOOTO was a rematch of one that Ribeiro won the first time around.

The reason this fight is more significant than just within the realm of Cage Rage is because of the Pride FC Lightweight tournament coming up. In that tournament most of the top Lightweight fighters compete including Hansen and Kawajiri mentioned above. Also in the tournament are Yves Edwards, Takanori Gomi, Jens Pulver, and several more. Gomi was the Shooto champion that Hansen beat to briefly hold the belt while Edwards and Pulver are both Shooto vets. Basically this Pride tournament is all the great Shooto Welterweights except Ribeiro. Even Silva's last fight before Vitor was a loss to Gomi in Pride: Bushido 8. Can Vitor be far from Pride himself?

This ending choke will look familiar to fans of 'Shaolin' as it was the same choke he used to defeat Joe Hurley, Eddie Yagin, and Takumi Nakayama earlier in his career. The fight in CAGE RAGE against Silva saw 'Shaolin' controlling the pace and aggression as he relentlessly pursued submissions while taking some striking damage from Silva. Ribeiro himself fired off more shots than usual but they were mostly to open up submission attempts. Instead of describing the fight more there are plenty of photos at:

SPIKE TV PRESENTS 'ULTIMATE FIGHT NIGHT 2'

Posted On 09/22/2005

One of the worst kept secrets in mixed martial arts finally became official on September 21st, 2005, when SPIKE TV officially announced that Ultimate Fight Night 2 would take place on Monday, October 3rd, at 9:00pm eastern time.

The UFC also has a new venue to host the Ultimate Fighter events in Las Vegas. Instead of using the Cox Pavilion, The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino will now be the home of the Ultimate Fight Night 2. The Hard Rock is smaller than the Pavilion and according to how the seating and octagon is arranged, it will most likely hold less of an attendance.

Spike TV has only announced three matches thus far:

- Evan Tanner vs. David Loiseau
- Chris Leben vs. Edwin Dewees
- Josh Koscheck vs. Drew Fickett
* Card subject to change

More fights are expected to be announced but it is unclear of how many fights will make the two hour show. Below is the projected card as it is runored to be:

- Evan Tanner vs. David Loiseau
- Stephan Bonnar vs. James Irvin **
- Josh Koscheck vs. Drew Fickett
- Chris Leben vs. Edwin Dewees
- Brandon Vera vs. Fabiano Scherner
- Spencer Fisher vs. Thiago Alves
- Brock Larson vs. Jon Fitch
- Jay Hieron vs. Jonathan Goulet

**Bonnar reported on his website that he is fighting Irvin on October 3rd, but rumors are circulating now that he has injured his hand and if off the card. There are no details if Irvin will fight someone else or if the fight will be scrapped completely.

In an attempt to win over some WWE's RAW viewers, Spike TV will air a new episode of 'UFC Unleashed' at 7:00pm eastern time, featuring UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski vs. Vladimir Matyushenko and Forrest Griffin vs. Bill Mahood. 'Ultimate Knockout's will then be aired at 8:00pm, then 'Ultimate Fight Night 2', and then a new episode of 'The Ultimate Fighter' season two at 11:00pm eastern time. This will be Spike TV's first Monday night programming without RAW in a while. RAW will move to the USA Network and will air a special three hour RAW entitled, the 'Night of Champions' that promises the return of Stone Cold Steve Austin among other WWE superstars. It will be interesting to see the ratings for that night to see if Spike TV can retain viewers after losing WWE's RAW lead in. "

Arizona fighter Joe 'Diesel' Riggs will return to the UFC Octagon in November's 'UFC 55: FURY'. At new weight of 170 lbs, the agenda remains the same for this hard hitter - UFC gold!

ADCC: In Your last fight in the UFC you were triangled by Ivan Salaverry. How disappointed where you after that loss? RIGGS: I was very disappointed. Ivan is tough fighter but I felt like I loss to a far less superior fighter. That kick that everyone thinks knocked me out it, just pushed my head the wrong way and I fell into his triangle. It was a tight one, but no disrespect to Ivan, he's a great fighter and a nice guy but he has none of the potential I do as a fighter. I was very upset.
